"Debtors, Not To The Flesh"

Romans 8:12

The consequences of a life lived in the flesh. You will die (Romans 6). Remember, to what you obey, to that you are a slave.  "Slave death."

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! 16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?

Since there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus(Romans 8:1). You are now free to live out your true obligations as "sons and daughters of the living God!"

Sonship Through the Spirit  Romans 8    "Obligation to the Holy Spirit"

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.

 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

 17 and if children, then heirsheirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

"Always A Slave"       "Your choice?"

17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.

 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

  19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.

A Call to Be Holy  1Peter 1:13

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

 14As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

 15But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

 16Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

The Blessed Man!     Does not;

Psalms 1.           The Way of the Righteous and the End of the Ungodly

Blessed is the man; Who Does Not;
 walk in the counsel of the ungodly,
 stand in the path of sinners,
 sits in the seat of the scornful;
Notice the progression away from the obligations to walking with the father in sonship. The man goes from walking, standing to finally settled, and sits and then once again becomes slave to sin.

His delight no longer in the Lord alone(vs4).

Where do you walk, stand and sit? It is ultimately who you will be come in Christ.

 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Selah.
